Author’s Guidelines

You may find all the information you need to submit and publish your work in this area. Except for Notes and Records and Biographical Memoirs, we provide instructions on how to get your piece ready for submission to any of our publications. We provide early career researchers who are preparing to publish their first publications with extra advice and assistance. If you have a question that isn't addressed here, get in touch with us.

Here are a few things to note when submitting your manuscript:

  • When deciding on authorship and other contributors please consider equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • The submitting author will be required to provide an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) via the online submission system. The benefits of registering an ORCID are outlined here. Provision of ORCIDs by co-authors is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory.
  • Note that length restrictions (if any), article types and other journal-specific information are available on the 'Author information' page on each journal website.
  • Submissions are routinely screened for plagiarism and, where relevant, image integrity (e.g. paper mills).

You are welcome to recommend appropriately competent reviewers, with preference given to early career researchers, researchers from the global South, and underrepresented groups (such as women, scientists from ethnic minorities, scientists with disabilities, and other underrepresented groups). But we could decide to hire other reviewers.
